Frequently asked questions

What is A Life in Rings?

It's a personalized piece of art: a tree cross-section that grows one ring for every year of a life. You pick from eight woods — oak, birch, pine, walnut, maple, cherry, cedar, and mahogany — then set the age, add a name and dates, choose a background and frame, and we print it as a keepsake for yourself or as a gift.

Is each piece really unique?

Yes. Every tree is procedurally generated from its own seed, so the grain, bark, and growth are one of a kind. You can reroll the grain until it feels right — no two pieces are the same.

What sizes and frames can I choose?

Four sizes — 12×16″, 18×24″, 24×32″, and 30×40″ — as an unframed print, a framed print, or framed with a mat. Frames come in eight real finishes (natural, walnut, black, white, gold, silver, and two greys). The swatches show the actual frame so you can choose with confidence.

How is it made and shipped?

Each piece is printed to order on fine-art paper by our print partner, framed if you choose, and shipped directly to you with tracking. Production usually takes 2–5 business days, with delivery after that. Shipping is included in the price.

Where do you ship?

The United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

Is the free download the same as the print?

The free download is a watermarked preview so you can share or sit with the design. The print you order is watermark-free, rendered at a full 300 DPI for your exact print size, and made on archival fine-art paper.

What if it arrives damaged or wrong?

We'll replace it or refund you. Because pieces are custom-made we can't take change-of-mind returns, but if anything arrives damaged, defective, or different from what you ordered, email us within 30 days with a photo and we'll make it right. See our returns policy.

Can I preview it before buying?

Absolutely — the studio shows a live preview as you customize, including how it looks framed. You can also grab a free watermarked download to share before you order.
